Co-Founder and legendary director Isao Takahata has passed away at the age of 82 at a hospital in Tokyo on April 05, 2018. Some sources are saying he was reported to have declining health through last year where he was hospitalized for heart complications.

Takahata is known best for award winning animated films such as Heidi, Girl of the Alps (1974), Grave of the Fireflies (1988), Pom Poko (1994), and semi-recently, The Tale of Princess Kaguya (2013). He was one of three who founded Studio Ghibli in 1985 together with Hayao Miyazaki and Toshio Suzuki who he met at Toei Douga (Toei Animation in present time) after he joined in 1959 after graduating from Tokyo University.

In 2016 Takahata told entertainment website Variety, "I have several projects that I still have in mind that I am currently working on to get closer to realizing. Whether those will be finalized as films is something that no one, myself included, can know." Whether or not we'll ever get to see the last of Takahata's works is unknown.

Rest in peace Takahata-san.
