Finally confirmed by Bioware, we now know that Bioware is simultaneously working on Mass Effect and Dragon Age during their work on Anthem.
This is huge news considering that we last heard that the Mass Effect franchise would be shelved for the foreseeable future while Bioware focused on the next Dragon Age and their newest IP, Anthem.
This news comes from Bioware's mid-summer update, where Casey Hudson assured fans of their franchises by saying:
"we hear loud and clear the interest in BioWare doing more Dragon Age and Mass Effect, so rest assured that we have some teams hidden away working on some secret stuff that I think you'll really like - we're just not ready to talk about any of it for a little while."
This is great news and what I like to see from those in charge of some of our favorite gaming franchises. Its disheartening to the core to hear about your favorite franchise being put on a hold, or just waiting around wondering when someone will get back to the one you want to see more from.
Just a little reassurance from developers goes a long, long way.
In some extreme cases, having the idea your favorite series will be shelved for now after such infamous negative publicity, may cause someone to give up on the franchise or worse- depression. (No joke.)
As much as I personally love the franchise, even I felt the pull of "this could be a waste of time" while trying to do everything in ME:Andromeda after hearing the news.
I persevered because I love the world and the characters, and I'm glad I did.
I do hope that the next installment will be a little more enjoyable and feel a little more like the first games. I know there's a lot of factors involved with that, but I'm looking forward to whatever they make, even if its continuing onward from Andromeda, or prequels.
Just don't let it die!

Dragon Age has had minor rumors floating aorund for a bit, as Bioware writer Alexis Kennedy talked about a new title in the franchise was in development, and how Casey Hudson said the next Dragon Age will be a "live" experience.

Players have also had some fears recently about just how we're to feel like Anthem is truly our own story and experience with Bioware's "Our World, Your Story" philosophy going around, and these things and more were addressed as well in that mid-summer update. The "our world" represents a live world Bioware is creating and hosting for players to experience, and the "your story" being generated by your own achievements, relations, and choices while visiting Fort Tarsis where the meat of the game's story takes place.
Its an interesting concept that I can see working, what do you think?
All that being said I feel we are many years away from any real Mass Effect or Dragon Age news, but we'll certainly be seeing more Anthem as time goes by.
Its just certainly good to know we'll be seeing more Mass Effect and Dragon Age one day.
Bioware will be holding a panel at PAX West, which takes place August 31 - September 3 in Seattle, WA.
