Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo made the announcement today that Dead or Alive 6 is definitely happening and is also confirmed to be released for an early 2019 release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
The announcements were made mostly via youtube and IGN who has had the first hands-on with DoA 6 and have posted some early first impressions that you can read about here.
This news is certainly a surprise to me since it was not long ago that the developers made a "We're done." comment that was heard around the world, a statement that also coincided with a list of live tournaments and inspired a wave of mixed feelings in the fighting game community, mostly depressing everyone it seemed.
Gematsu has a small gallery of early screenshots as well that they've compiled here.
Check out the trailer. You can see several recognizable faces, the biggest impact seeming to be Kasumi and her new design.
There's some talk of the story taking a new direction and a new engine that allows for even more realistic graphics and character emotions and facial expressions that also take place during fights.
Longtime Dead or Alive fan here, and I was also one of many who had mixed feelings about the developer's recent comments.
All in all this announcement surprises me more than anything, as I didn't expect to see anything Dead or Alive related for a while, but I am excited and happy to see DoA 6 is on the way. Let's just hope the developers don't burn themselves out this time on 'setting world records for having the most DLC costumes imaginable'. ^^;;
