Kodama Mitsuo, the graphics director for The King of Fighters '94, highlighted in birthday tweets how the support from fujoshi was vital in revitalizing SNK's fighting game series, coinciding with Kusanagi Kyo's birthday.
Kodama revealed that during the critical phase of KOF'94, facing cancellation due to low internal reviews, even he was on the brink of giving up. However, during an arcade location test, the presence of enthusiastic fujoshi around the cabinets sparked hope among the staff, providing the much-needed confidence to push the game forward.
In a separate tweet, Kodama expressed gratitude to all players of KOF'94, acknowledging the challenging journey he felt he had to endure alone during the game's development.
Fujoshi unintentionally aided other cultural elements too, like the katana Shokudaikiri Mitsutada's recognition after being part of a damaged museum collection, and raising awareness for the original Gundam series, where a significant portion of the audience were women.
