Our recent FFXIV Mega Mount-A-Thon: Shadowbringers Edition event has seen a whole new batch of Gwibers of Light drop for event attendees! 🐉
At the Mega Mount-A-Thon above from before that, our FFXIV Azure Event saw every attendee mount a new emerald Gwiber!

Mega Mount-A-Thon is a bi-weekly Azure community event that takes place in Final Fantasy XIV every first and third Saturday. Hosts and members group up for mount farming, which includes slaying a boss multiple times until the right rewards pop. There's special mounts like the Gwiber dragons you see above, if you collect them all you get a very unique mount!
There are mount sets like these for each expansion.
During our Azure event, we kill bosses within mere minutes and chat and laugh together in voice chats while hanging out at the event in-game. It's a lot of fun!
The event dates back to 2020 during the early COVID-19 pandemic when Azure admin and General Terry McKinney wished to create a fun mount farming event to add to our event schedule to increase cheer and fun in our community during those uncertain days of the early pandemic. The event's structure and popularity made an organized mount farming event for Azure, expertly placed in its bi-weekly format to prevent burnout, and utilizing the game's "unsync" or "undersized" party option, removing parameter barriers for quick fights and lighthearted fun.
Like all events, members group in the lawn as charismatic event hosts discuss the upcoming fun with event shout outs leading up to the start of grouping- a simple, open-invite solution for optional-to-attend community events, which also takes place simultaneously in the Azure Discord's Grouping Voice Chat.
The issue with usual mount farms that are often spur of the moment groups players put together, often recruiting random via the game's Party Finder tool, is that it can get droll very quickly. Repetition and strangers don't always mix, especially if people fail mechanic's. The focus is often on current, challenging mounts, requiring clears of current Extreme difficulty fights- not for the faint of heart. Randoms might leave when they get what they want, and weekly mount farms held by many guilds will eventually burn out, or, everyone will get what they need quickly, killing attendance and exhausting the idea.
We're proud that Azure can offer such an event to mix into our weekends, alongside the rest of our schedule. Even if it's only twice a month, looking forward to getting together with guildmates and friends at the end of a week to collect new mounts together, and actually see the success seen above, is satisfying and supplies a non-judgemental, helpful atmosphere that inspires and builds comeraderie- and even friendships.
We're currently focusing on collecting Gwibers. The difficulty of mechanics is easy with a group, and it's from the 2nd to most latest expansion, putting the task as just casual enough to have easy fun, but with enough fight mechanics to hold your attention. After this summer, the event will move to focusing on Endwalker expansion mounts, giving everyone who didn't dig into more challenging, exhaustive farms, a chance to pick them up with the team in our event's relaxing and friendly setting.
