The film opened strongly in the U.S. with roughly US $17.3 million during its debut weekend, helping to propel its global total past US $108 million at the time of reporting.
Produced by MAPPA and directed by Tatsuya Yoshihara, the film adapts key volumes of the original manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto, following the story of Denji and his encounter with Reze.
The U.S. performance saw it topping the general box‐office charts, outperforming several live‐action films in the same weekend. I find this very impressive for anime, which even today can be niche at theaters, often seeing a limited time run or lack of hype.
The success of “Reze Arc” further underscores the growing global influence of anime movies, demonstrating that anime productions can not only meet but can actually surpass mainstream theatrical expectations. With this milestone, the Chainsaw Man brand strengthens its position alongside other blockbuster anime films in terms of international commercial performance.
Have you ever went to see an anime movie in a theater? If I recall correctly, I believe the first anime that wasn't Pokémon, Digimon, or Yugioh in theaters, was Bleach: Memories of Nobody.
