Kadokawa Corporation announced the ongoing suspension of Niconico video services on its temporary website due to a cyber attack on June 8. The company is conducting a thorough investigation expected to last over a month. Other operations, including publication, merchandise, and accounting systems, were also impacted, causing delays in releases.
Niconico executives detailed the attack, confirming it involved ransomware targeting internal networks and servers. Kadokawa responded by setting up an emergency task force and disconnecting servers to contain the malware. Police and external specialists were notified, and service restoration is ongoing.
Affected services include Niconico Dōga, live streaming, and music monetization, with compensations planned for affected members and operators. Programming is suspended until July, with a temporary viewing site established. Manga services aim to resume by June's end.
The attack also disrupted Kadokawa's print and digital production, logistics, and merchandise orders, with delays expected. Systems are slated for restoration by June's end, with apologies for potential payment delays to partners.
